Hebrew Month: Nisan

Soooo..this is something new I wanted to start. I’ve been learning Hebrew culture for years now and I wanted to share what I’ve learned with you guys. One of the main reasons, is because I wanted to show other facets of myself in hopes that you guys will learn more about me and feel that I’m engaging because it’s important for me that I connect with you guys.

I also wanted to start now because we are in the Hebraic month of Nisan which is extremely significant. Nisan is the 1st month of the Jewish spiritual calendar. What does that mean? There are several Jewish calendars/new years; however, I’ve only studied two, The Civil and the and the Sacred. Look at it like our January 1st is our New Year when the calendar goes from one year to the next vs the Fiscal year. The civil year is when the tangible calendar changes; that happens in September/October and it’s called Rosh Hashanah in the month of Tishrei. The Sacred or Spiritual Calendar began this month, Nisan, the month of Passover.

Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. “Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.… (Exodus 12: 1-3)

The first of anything, is really important and sets the pace. The first spiritual month sets the pace for the spiritual year. This year, Nisan began Sundown on March 27th. You should know that the Jewish calendar month usually splits the Gregorian month. For example Nisan ranges from March to April. There are significant characteristics about each month you should know to be in sync with God.

Each month has characteristics associated with it that you should focus on during these times such as a body part, sense, tribe, letter, gemstone, zodiac sign (I know a lot of people may be clutching their pearls when you hear, zodiac. Many people were taught that it was evil but it’s found in the Bible. Mazzaroth translates to zodiac which is found in Job 38:32. The study of the stars is not evil in fact, in Genesis it talks about using the stars to tell times and seasons. What we shouldn’t be doing is consulting the stars for our lives, they are tools-resources, not the source.)

  • Nisan is the month to watch your speech
  • It’s a month of Repentance, Redemption and Beginning of Miracles
  • Body Part- Right Foot (putting your best foot forward)
  • Tribe of Judah-Praise, thank God for deliverance
  • Letter/ Number- Hei-Picture of wind or breath of God/ # 5=Grace (God’s unearned favor)
  • Stone-Dark Red Garnet or Blue Topaz
  • Constellation-Aries-Lamb (celebrate the Passover lamb as Heaven and Earth connect)
  • Holidays/Feasts-Passover, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits (evening of April 10th-evening of April 18th)
  • Kings go to war in the spring-go to war for what is yours

What’s most interesting about this is that as you learn more about these themes month to month you will begin to see it pop up in your life, if you’re looking for it. I know I didn’t go deep into it but if you guys want to know more about any of the topics, I’ll be happy to elaborate.
