Yo, yo, yo!!
It’s day 2 of our week!! Today, I decided to challenge myself by elevating a casual tee shirt and sneakers from being just things you throw on to pieces you look for to add a cool element to any ensemble. This really isn’t a challenge for me because it’s where I live and what I live in. I like heels as much as the next lady, I look at them when I’m shopping, I like the idea of them, I own them and there’s certain ones I even salivate for but they can be too much trouble in everyday life, unless they’re chunky. So they sit in my closet until “that” event. Don’t act like y’all don’t have certain events for heels too. You know the event you must slay or die…yep, that one. Plus, I hate driving in them; so you have to carry other shoes to change into, change back into, walk wherever you’re going just to come out of them again cuz best believe, when I get to my destination I’m kicking them bad boys off.
I am truly the self proclaimed queen of “comfy cute.” I must admit any sneakers, flatforms or brogues with a twist is instantly my jam. I love any bows and intricate details to make my shoes pop and right now, in fashion, any slogan tee especially anyone that has a feminist message is the way to go.
This tee shirt is from Asos (I’m not able to link anything, sorry 😦 ). It’s from a brand called Noisy May and it was about $19.00. The shoes are from DSW and were about $45. I got them at the beginning of the season and unfortunately, they are no longer available online. I did find a similar grey pair at Asos called the Asos Denise Bow Sneakers for about $40. The earrings were a gift and all three will be the items that will remain constant in the today’s options.
This red/orange skirt is from Target and I’ve had it for years. I’ve been focusing on cleaning out my wardrobe with the stipulation of having to wear the items I keep. So, I pulled this out. Who knows, you guys maybe even see me sporting some of my heels…stay tuned. Getting back on track, the color is a show stopper and I love the fit. It really elongates my 5″2 frame. I like mix and matching styles so this particular outfit may not be for everyone as it can be a little confusing with the sneakers and the fancy earrings but I really dig it. I think most people could understand the earrings with the skirt and dressing it up but the tee shirt and the shoes take it to a more casual place…a place called…”comfy cute.” Not only that, but I would love to pair this skirt with a jean shirt, the play on fitted vs. oversized would be bomb.
Option 2, although paired with trousers is a cute “Saturday shopping with the girls” kind of an outfit. Although they look black in the pictures, they actually have a navy background with white polka dots. These trousers are from New York and Company and were probably $45.00 or so. I’m also a big fan of geometric patterns, stripes, polka dots and shapes that form bold patterns. I pretty much live for anything with an Art Deco feel. To me, this outfit comes off more casual than the first, even though when I think of trousers, I don’t think of casual. Fortunately, for me, I’ve always held fairly casual jobs so I’ve worn both outfit options to work.
Let me know which option was your favorite and guess which one I chose to wear today. I’ll post the option I chose on my Instagram. Check it out my handle is wethepeculiars and if you like look around and don’t forget to comment, like and follow, if you feel led to do so. Also let me know if you like this type of “styling options” twist on the #OOTD posts. Do you think I should do the rest of the week with this styling element? Anyway, I hope you liked it and I’ll see you tomorrow for Wednesday’s edition of… (dun, dun, dun) my week of OOTD’s.
